June 7th, 2014, was one of those really great, awesome days that come once in a life time.
It was the launch of Dreams, my debut novel and I was both excited and nervous. My launch was held at my local library and I sent out many invitations. I arrived early to decorate and prepare for the “crowds” of people that were coming. Earlier that morning I had my hair styled and I got my nails done the day before with a girlfriend of mine. I bought new pens (I planed on signing a lot of books), had boxes of books on stand-by and had posters made. I was ready!
I had some wonderful surprises that day, let me tell you. One of my dearest friends had a cake made in honor of dreams and had red and black napkins embroidered. I was soooo blessed by this!
What an awesome gift friends are. I will never forget this act of kindness.
Later I did a reading of the first chapter, on a stage with a microphone. Whoa! I cannot tell you how surreal it is to read your work aloud to a crowd. It was awesome. Then food was served as I signed novels. What a great feeling to see friends and family there to support me all lined up to buy a singed copy of Dreams. They made my day spectacular. My dream had come true and I could not have imagined it to be any better.
I’m not a prideful person, actually I hate to be noticed most of the time, but I can actually say I was proud of myself that day. I stuck in there till the end when it was by no means easy to come by and with support from loving family & friends and a awesome God, I can say I did it. I am an Author!
May you, pursue your dream with ferocity. Don’t give up on yourself and never let go of the passion burning in you! That burning, it’s the dream God deposited in you! Make it happen. You can make anything happen you never give up on. Hour by hour, day by day, work at it and one day it will be your day to say….”I did it. I’m a _____!” I believe in you!
After my launch, I came home with some friends and we took all the balloons, thanked the Lord then asked for a blessing on Dreams and then we released them. Watching them float away into that eclectic blue sky on that beautiful day, I knew deep within myself…. my launch was once in a life time moment, but this was the first of many awesome days!
