Doon is a YA fantasy and it is fantastic. I love the cover as well, it is very fitting for the book.
Veronica and Mackenna are two of the most realistic, down to earth characters that I have had the pleasure of reading from in a long time. They were so believable in their voices as the narrators, I felt like I had known them forever. On top of that, they were so different, I felt like I was reading two different stories that paralleled each other. It was an awesome reading experience. And, Mackenna was hysterical. Her character had me laughing out loud so many times. Love when books can do that.
So, Mackenna invites her BFF, Veronica, to Scotland for the summer to sort through her Aunt Gracie’s things after her passing and also to have a totally epic summer. After learning that the cottage was left to Mackenna with all of Gracie’s things they find her journal. They quickly learn about the secret kingdom of Doon.
Veronica becomes obsessed with this “fairytale” and lures her friend onto the Brig o’ Doon where both of their lives change forever. From there we are taken on a joyride of romance, friendship, hardship, danger and a little bit of magic. This book had everything!!
The kingdom of Doon is unforgettable as is the inhabitants thereof. I instantly fell in love with Doon and it’s princes. The settings are breath taking and the authors did a suburb job catching important details from each girls point of view that paints the whole picture. I loved it. I could not put this one down and I am very much excited to continue this trilogy.
I gave Doon 5* and two big thumbs up! Loved it!:)
This is how I imagined the Brig o’ Doon to look like! The writing is so vivid, it came through with ease.
These are the next two books in the trilogy…..I cannot wait to get my hands on them!
